CARPE DIEM, Seize the Day

Ancient, withered, ripened with age,

like a frail little bird in a nursing home cage.

Quiet, staring, out of her mind,

imprisoned in the home since her daughter had signed.

Clever, disturbed, her plan was on track,

ready with knife under pillow to drive into his back.

Silent, approaching, she steadied her hand,

willing to make this her very last stand.

Nervous, excited, her heart failed to beat,

she collapsed in a pile behind his white-soled feet.

THE SOUNDS I LIKE BEST

There are many sounds that are pleasant to the ears, but these are my favorite I like to hear,

Like when lying in bed quietly at night, on my roof I hear the pitter patter of rain ever so light,

To hear the wind whistle through the trees, and gently pull it's autumn colored leaves for the ground to meet,

waiting for me to come and make them crunch beneath my feet,

The summer sounds of children laughing as they work hard at play, and the three-thirty school bell ringing at the end of a busy day,

To hear birds chirping on a cool spring morning is a most pleasant thing, and night sounds of animals in the forest all these contentment to me brings,

I'm not sure of which I like best, a loving mother singing a song while bathing her baby, or the tiny chuckles of a baby's first laugh,

Perhaps the one that means the most to me is the sound of a choir in church singing to Thee, and bells chiming for freedom for you to be you and me to be me.
