RANGELY, Colo. - Thomas Powers scored a game-high 23 points as Colorado Northwestern Community College beat North Idaho College for the first time in 14 seasons, upsetting the 10th-ranked Cardinals 74-69 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Saturday.
Powers had six 3-pointers, five coming in the decisive second half for Colorado Northwestern, which last beat NIC 93-87 on Feb. 21, 1998, in Rangely.
"They played really, really good," NIC coach Jared Phay said. "Powers stepped up and hit some big shots. You've got to give them a lot of credit."
Colorado Northwestern had seven turnovers.
"They executed and did the things to win tonight," Phay said. "It's a tough loss, but we've got to learn from it and move on."
Antoine Hosley scored 18 points and Keon Lewis 17 points for NIC (18-2, 4-1), which travels to Salt Lake next Friday. The loss dropped the Cardinals into a first-place tie with the College of Southern Idaho.
