Kuhn nets 2 in Chiefs' victory

SPOKANE - Steve Kuhn scored two goals and Brenden Kitchton and Dominik Uher added a goal and two assists apiece as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Portland Winterhawks 5-2 in front of 8,168 at the Spokane Arena in a Western Hockey League game Saturday night.

Portland opened the scoring in the first period on a goal by Ty Rattie, his 41st of the season. Spokane answered as Kuhn tied the game on an assist by Todd Fiddler early in the second period. Kitchton put Spokane up 2-1 with his ninth goal of the season midway through the period and Kuhn scored a short-handed goal to give Spokane a 3-1 lead.

Rattie scored his second power-play goal with just under three minutes remaining in the second to cut Spokane's lead to 3-2.

Dylan Walchuk scored his third goal of the season early in the third period and Uher capped the scoring with an assist from Marek Kalus with under three minutes remaining.

Eric Williams had 24 saves for Spokane (24-14-3-3, 54 points), which trails Portland by nine points for second place in the U.S. Division.

The teams face off again tonight in Spokane at 6:05.
