An influx of snowy owls has been documented in the Polson area recently, but this photo shows that the rare species is visiting the north end of Flathead Lake as well. Photographer Richard Cordell took this picture of an owl on a farm off of Farm Road in the Lower Valley. Cordell said it is one of several owls in the vicinity. Flathead Audubon Society is taking a free birding trip around the Lower Valley Saturday to search for snowy owls, raptors, wintering waterfowl and other winter birds. To participate, meet at 8 a.m. at the Park ‘n’ Ride at the intersection of U.S. 93 and Montana 82 near Somers. Bring binoculars or a scope.
