WHITEFISH - Tyler Krell continues to terrorize teams down in the paint, scoring 32 combined points in two games over the weekend, but the Pirates dropped two games against tough opponents.

On Friday, the Pirates traveled up to Kalispell where they matched up against the No. 5 Class AA team in the state, the Flathead Braves, and despite early successes, Polson fell 71-48.

Polson jumped out to a 15-11 lead in the first quarter, but Flathead battled back in the second quarter with a 27-14 run. They continued to push their advantage with a 20-12 run after halftime en route to victory. Krell led the Pirates with 15 points and Cody Fischer added 11.

The boards proved to be the key battle for the Braves, who outrebounded Polson 41-18.

Krell proved to be a force in Whitefish on Saturday, when the two teams matched up in a fight for second place in the conference. Again Polson gained the early advantage in the first quarter with a 13-9 lead, but again their opponent made a run in the second quarter, this time Whitefish outscoring the Pirates 17-6.

Hanging on to a 26-19 lead, both teams scored evenly in the third quarter but Whitefish pulled away in the fourth quarter for the victory. Krell led the team with 17 points, Zack Camel had nine points and Vince DiGiallonardo had eight.

Polson did an ample job against the Northwestern A's top scorer in Whitefish's Gage Vasquez. Vasquez notched just 13 points, but the Bulldogs were able to balance out their attack in the victory.

The Pirates will now travel down to take on the No. 1 Class A team in the state, Stevensville, for a matchup on Thursday.
