YAKIMA, Wash. - Jarrett Morrill (141), Ryan Zumwalt (157), Kyle Sweedman (174), Caleb Rivera (184) and Justin Korthuis had pins to lead North Idaho College past Yakima Valley 45-3 on Monday night.

"It was a pretty good end to the dual season," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "It's always nice to have that momentum going into regionals.

"We responded pretty well and took care of business."

NIC, 9-3 in duals this season, will be back in Yakima in two weeks for the regional tournament.

Cards drop two at Kickoff Classic

LAS VEGAS - After an offensive drought in Game 1, the North Idaho Cardinals managed nine runs in the second game, but were swept by Chattanooga State Community College of Chattanooga, Tenn., 4-0 and 17-9 on Monday at the Kickoff Classic.

Kortney Koroll led off the fourth inning with a home run and Chattanooga went on to shut out North Idaho in the first game of the day.

In Game 2, Shelby Carter had an RBI double in the fifth, scoring KaSara Wise who had earlier singled. Later in the inning, Amber Meyers tripled in two runs and North Idaho's 5-run inning made the score 12-5 heading into the sixth.

NIC was able to put two runs on the board in each lf the last two innings, as Wise homered in the sixth, and Meyers and Jessica Lupinacci each has RBIs to round out the scoring for the Cardinals in the seventh.

NIC moves on to face Salt Lake CC in St. George, Utah, in doubleheaders on Feb. 8-9.
