COEUR d'ALENE - A Spokane native overcame a one-stroke first-round deficit to win the Open division of the Cherry Hill disc golf tournament by two strokes Saturday at Cherry Hill Park.

Big Mike Leslie shot two rounds of 46 to overcome Ben Squires in the second round by two strokes. Leslie had never played Cherry Hill before the tournament, and said he didn't agree with some negative feedback he read about the new course design on Facebook.

"This course is epic," Leslie said. "It requires every single shot you need to be a 1,000-rated player."

Leslie birdied five holes in a row in his second round, holes 8 through 12. He birdied holes 10, 11 and 12 in both rounds on his way to finishing at 16 under.

Squires, the state of Idaho's highest PDGA-rated disc golfer and tournament director, finished second place in the Open division at 14 under. His first-round score of 45 was the tournament's lowest, punctuated by birdies on holes 12 through 15.

In other divisions, Josh Williamson surged behind a first-round 47 to win the Advanced division by two strokes over Cody Hixson. Sam Lebsock relied on a second-round 52 to beat Brad Rogers in the Intermediate division, and Brandon Karner won the Junior division with a 136.

The North Idaho Disc Golf hosted the tournament at the newly redesigned Cherry Hill Disc Golf Course.
