Idaho State Police seeking to hire 20 new troopers
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 10 months AGO
COEUR d'ALENE - The Idaho State Police is looking for several good men and women.
ISP plans to hire about 20 troopers to begin training. The new recruits applied about six months ago and are finishing up an extensive hiring process.
ISP recently posted its second trooper announcement of 2012 and is currently accepting applications through July 26.
Previous law enforcement experience is not required.
"The important thing now is to fill the vacant trooper positions to ensure we are providing the highest level of public safety on Idaho highways," according to a press release.
If you thinking of applying, just know it won't easy.
Consider:
• The process begins with a comprehensive online application and exam, then oral board and physical fitness testing.
• Applicants must then pass an extensive background check which includes reference checks, work history verification, criminal history, and credit checks.
• Applicants must also pass a series of psychological, medical, and physical fitness exams.
• A polygraph exam and substance abuse screening will be administered as well.
• The training process on average takes about nine months to complete, which includes a 10-week POST academy in addition to a 14-week ISP advanced training academy.
Upon successful completion of both academies, the new recruit will begin on-the-job field training for a period of time with experienced troopers.
Applicants must be willing to work anywhere in the state of Idaho. Starting pay is $17.67 per hour and possibly higher.
