Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 5 months AGO
Following a standoff with sheriff's deputies, a Post Falls man is in police custody after allegedly threatening his grandmother with a firearm and then using the weapon to strike her on the shoulder.
Jessy C. Berry, 33, was booked into Kootenai County Jail today on suspected charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
Sheriff's deputies responded at approximately 10 a.m. to the report of a possible aggravated assault in the area of Schilling Loop and Riverview Drive in Post Falls.
The elderly victim's neighbor made the report, stating the victim's "son" had threatened his "mother" with a handgun Monday evening and again this morning.
Deputies confirmed the report with the victim, determining the suspect to be her adult grandson. The officers positioned themselves around the outside of the residence where Berry was believed to be. They then made numerous attempts to communicate with the suspect.
"After a brief time the suspect made contact with the deputies via his cell phone," said a press releases sent out by the sheriff's office. "A conversation was started and after numerous calls back and forth the suspect exited the residence and surrendered peacefully."
An investigation continues, with sheriff's detectives assigned to the case. The extent of the victim's injuries are unknown, but believed to minor.
