Libby Loggers light fuse, then fizzle, at Firecracker Tournament
Ryan Murray | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 years AGO
The Loggers Legion Baseball team had mixed results over the weekend, as they won two and were wiped off the field in the other at the Firecracker Tournament in Polson.
Jared Winslow followed up his stellar performance in the Big Bucks Tournament with a complete-game outing, striking out nine and allowing eight hits and two runs in Libby’s 5-2 victory over the Bitterroot Red Sox.
In what has been an issue for the Loggers, eight baserunners were left on against the Red Sox.
It proved to be an issue again in the second game of a double-header Thursday afternoon, as the Missoula Pioneers had little trouble dismantling the Loggers 6-0, as Libby left seven stranded.
Will Reichel and Micah Germany combined for the six-innings, with each allowing five hits. The two only had three earned runs, the other three came off five errors.
Germany got half of the team’s four hits.
The Loggers rebounded from their lethargic day offensively with a 9-8 win over Mission Valley B, yet tellingly still stranded six runners.
Falling behind 6-4 early, the Loggers responded with a five-run fourth inning that saw four hits, several stolen bases and a costly error by Mission Valley.
