Grove wins Inland Empire
PGA assistants tournament
LIBERTY LAKE - Russell Grove of Avondale Golf Club in Hayden shot a 68-67-135 to win the Inland Empire PGA Assistants Championship on Monday at Meadowwood Golf Course and Liberty Lake Golf Course.
The first round was held at the par-72 Meadowwood and the second at the par-70 Liberty Lake course. The event was open to eligible assistant golf professionals in the Inland Empire chapter.
Scott Adams of Twin Lakes Village Golf Club shot a 72-65-137 to finish tied for second. Matt Miller of Twin Lakes was 15th with a 76-77-153.
Mark Nelson of Circling Raven shot a 76-83-159 for 17th and Colin Carlson of The Club at Black Rock shot an 83-78-161 to finish tied for 20th.
Steve Olson of Hayden Lake Country Club shot an 81-81-162 and Casey Dunn of Coeur d'Alene Golf Club shot an 83-79-162 finished tied for 22nd.
Marc Fillmore rounded out the local finishers for The Club at Black Rock, finishing 24th with a 83-80-163.

Ex-NIC star Canitez helps
lead Turkey to London
ANKARA, Turkey - Former North Idaho College standout Tugce Canitez saw eight minutes of action as the Turkish national team beat Argentina for the country's first Olympic berth in women's basketball.
Canitez is the youngest player on the Turkish team. Turkey will compete against the United States, China, Croatia, Czechoslovakia and Angola in their respective pool in the London Olympics. Canitez led NIC to its first national championship in 2011.
NIC summer volleyball camps
still accepting youth players
COEUR d'ALENE - There are still spots remaining for players interested in the North Idaho College volleyball camps for grades 5 through 12 this summer at Christianson Gym, taught by NIC coaches and players.
The Advanced Skills camp for participants entering grades 10 through 12 will be July 30-Aug. 1 and focuses on individual skills combined with team concepts. Players will be grouped by age and ability to ensure a competitive level of play and instruction will include the fundamentals of individual skills, skill building, position-specific sessions, integration of skills, game-style competitions and tournament play. This year, there is also a separate Advanced Skills Camp for ninth-graders only. Cost of either camp is $175 and lunch is included.
A Youth Skills Camp will be offered July 28 and 29 for players entering grades 5-8. The camps are designed for beginners as well as players who want to improve and refine their skills. Emphasis will be on all-around skill development and fundamentals. Basic game concepts will be taught and incorporated into afternoon competition sessions and costs $80 with lunch included.
Instruction will be led by NIC volleyball coach Kandice Kelly, Rocky Mountain College coach Laurie Kelly, as well as NIC coaches and players.
