PLAINS - A vehicle randomly caught fire late Friday afternoon off Montana Ave. and River Road East in Plains.
At the corner of the residence 15 River Road East, fire torched dried grass and an unoccupied 2004 Jeep Liberty. The Jeep was described by authorities as being "completely engulfed in flames." Owner of the property, Cindy Frost, said she was glad more damage had not been done.
"It was incredibly astounding," Frost said. "It was a good thing we didn't have high winds today or it could've jumped. Thank goodness the wind was down. We could've had bigger trouble."
Plains Volunteer Fire Department, DNRC Fire, and Plains-Paradise Rural Fire District responded to the call when it came in around 5 p.m. They had the fire put out by 6 pm.
"Amen to the Plains Volunteer Fire Department," Frost said. "They were here promptly and had it out quick."
