STORY: Kudos to reporter Walker

It has come to me firsthand from my music partner, Kathryn Robison, veteran USO entertainer of the Pacific Command, World War II, Korea, Japan, etc., featured on the front page of your May 30, 2011, Memorial Day issue, and written by Brian Walker, that the same Brian Walker apparently put together parts of the community funeral team to support the final services for Frank Barnhardt, U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II.

Your article reported that Barnhardt had been involved with USO “Bob Hope shows or writing music or poetry.” Two noticeable coincidences in the article relate to the aforementioned veteran USO entertainer, dancer and musician, Kathryn Robison, now 84. Kathryn’s father, an immigrant from Germany who eventually settled in the Chicago area prior to World War I, changed his original family name from Barnhardt.

No, Mr. Editor, this is merely acknowledging the public services of the “work-a-day” writers and reporters of your staff, including Brian Walker, and not intending to commence or recommend another study in genealogies.
