Hornets to the rescue

RATHDRUM - The Green Hornet is known as a crime fighter.
Hornets of the flying, tiny insect variety, not so much.
But they should be, says Jon Summers.
The Post Falls man credits a pair of hornets nests with saving his 1997 Ford Taurus from being burglarized over the weekend.
"I think they ended up having to leave after opening the door," Summers said.
The Taurus hasn't been driven for more than a year, he said, because the family has other cars. It has been sitting off Ross Point Road until Sunday, when a friend noticed the passenger door was partially open.
When Summers went to investigate, he discovered two small hornets nests inside the door panel.
He believes someone tried to get into the car Saturday night, but was forced to flee when faced with the fury of unhappy hornets.
Nothing was missing from the car.
Summers, while appreciative of the hornets' help, said he couldn't let them take over the Taurus for good. He would eventually need to drive it again.
"I'll have to spray them," he said.
