BONNERS FERRY — Akins Harvest Foods isn’t going anywhere soon.

Though rumors have been circulating throughout Bonners Ferry regarding the fate of Akins, Manager Clayton Williams says that the store’s lease is in good standing, despite whispers of Safeway, the property owner, refusing to renew.

“That rumor has been floating around forever,” Williams said.

Not only is Akins staying right where it is, they are currently renovating a corner of the store to make room for a new bakery and deli.

Williams says that the new addition will be using old Harvest Foods family recipes handed down through generations, creating dishes from scratch and providing fresh, delicious items for shoppers.

He said the recent opening of Super 1 Foods also hasn’t hurt Akins’ business.

He says the store has been in the community for a long time and plans to stay right here.
