Lums fall in opener

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Chad Nyquist scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning, but the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen were held to four hits in a 2-1 loss to Lake Oswego in their opening game in pool play at the Clackamas "AA" Legion baseball tournament on Thursday.
Jordan Horak struck out nine for Lake Oswego.
"We just didn't get the bats going today," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "We just never really got on track today."
Coeur d'Alene (28-6) faces Barlow today at 12:15 p.m. and will open bracket play at either or 5:45, depending on the outcome of the early game.
Jake Gonzales allowed two runs in a complete- game loss for Coeur d'Alene.
"He threw a lot of ground balls today," Duman said. "He was really effective all day."

COEUR d'ALENE - Ashton Stephenson went 2 for 3 as St. Maries won the first game before Derek Griffin struck out four in six innings for the Coeur d'Alene Loggers as the teams split a "A" Legion baseball doubleheader at McEuen Field.
Colton Gray and J.J. Winger both went 2 for 4 in the first game for Coeur d'Alene (17-15), which is scheduled to host Grangeville in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at McEuen Field.
