Troy holds first 3D Archery Shoot

Troy’s archery club held its first even on June 23 and 24, and turned out a sizable group, especially for a new organization.

More than 90 archers showed up for the two day event, a 3D Archery shoot.

3D Archery takes archers off the shooting range and puts them in a course where they can move about in three dimensions (hence the name) while shooting at static targets placed throughout the course.

The Troy event had two courses with twenty targets each. The targets, bright foam-wrapped objects that allow safe and clean hits, ranged in size from a raccoon to a moose, simulating shooting a bow while on a hunt.

Depending on what type of bow the archers were using, the range varied accordingly.

The Montana state 3D champ shot the course, along with several of Idaho’s top archers.

But in a spot of good news for the club, many families attended as well, making the event (and hopefully for the club, more like it) a hit with all ages.

The feedback Pat Hanley, a representative from the club, received was heartening to him and the club’s members.

“They said they really liked the course,” Hanley said. “Their recommendation was “don’t change anything!”
