If you are a bass fisherman that loves the "topwater" bite, now is the time to fish the Potholes Reservoir. If the term "toilet-flush" means the noise when a jumbo bass explodes on a topwater bait then this summer at Potholes is for you. Now is the time to steal a day from work and get out here on the reservoir and fish the sand dunes for bass or hit the rock-piles on the south end of the lake for smallmouth! Anglers along the face of the dam, and down the Lind Coulee arm are reporting 50 fish days. The Sand Dunes give an angler all the opportunity to catch a 7 lb. Largemouth. The sun has been a blazing this past week so remember to hydrate! Temperatures are planning to stay around the 90's all week.
Recently, Mike Meseberg's son, Levi, was babysitting his 22 month-old Mason on the boat. They spent the afternoon swimming with the Brady family from Othello on a sand dune in the refreshing 78 F water. On the way back in Levi stopped to fish a submerged Beaver Hut and caught a 6lb Largemouth for Mason to play with! Just another great family story created out here at MarDon Resort.
Also, our Rainbow Trout fishery continues to provide fish in the 3-4 lb. range with the largest one coming into the resort at 7 lbs 2 oz. Our good friend Mike Jones, of Fetha Styx Rods, has been catching and releasing Rainbows up to 5 lbs. at the mouth of Frenchman's wasteway in the early morning hours. Rapala Shad Raps, Luhr-Jensen Baby Hot-Lips, Warden DC-13's, Needlefish as well as spinners trolled far behind the boat at 1.5 to 3.5 MPH have been the ticket. The water level on Potholes Reservoir has been rapidly dropping due to maximum demand for irrigation water to the most productive farmlands in the world. The current water elevation is 1,041.4 feet, otherwise roughly 5 feet below full pool.
Most Walleye anglers are still struggling with the high water situation which has fostered amazing weed growth as large weed mats are strung throughout the dunes. Although Walleye fishing is beginning to pick up with a drop in the water level! Fishing off the MarDon Resort dock is beginning to catchon fire for the Bluegill and Crappie bite with the hot weather we have been experiencing.
The more than 50 seep lakes below O'Sullivan Dam hold some excellent untouched fishing. Warden Lake continues to be on a strong power bait bite for trout for the shore angler.
Hutchinson and Shiner lakes are producing Perch, Bluegill and Largemouth Bass. These two lakes are on the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge. (No gas motors allowed) Largemouth up to 8lbs. 4oz. have been reported from Hutchinson this year.
The Potholes canal system, Soda, Long, and Crescent Lakes have been kicking out Rainbow Trout to 6lbs, quality Smallmouth to 4lbs. and big Largemouth at 6lbs in 2012. The fishing pressure on these lakes is very low.
Our upcoming events at MarDon Resort include the Sammie Bash Golf Tournament on July 21st and August 25th the annual Poker Run! Both events go to support the Central Washington Fish Advisory Committee. A new addition to this year's line-up on September 15-16 we will be running the annual "Old Farts & Family" Bass Tournament.

Fresh News from MarDon
Waterfowl hunting continues to be tough with stagnant air which builds fog. Additionally, with our unseasonably warm weather temperatures every pond or secret hole is now completely free of ice with mostly open water. These conditions are perfect to jump shoot Northern Mallards and lazy Canadian Honkers. Central Washington is covered with waterfowl from the North. As soon as our temperatures drop below freezing around the clock and we get a little wind, the big water will harbor vast numbers of quality ducks and geese.
