COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene Tribe police officer was admitted to Kootenai Health Friday morning after injuring his arm trying to prevent a suspect from fleeing.

The male suspect managed to drive away from the officer after the officer detained the suspect outside the Coeur d'Alene Casino.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is investigating the incident, and did not release the name of the officer or the suspect.

The accident occurred around 8:40 a.m. after the officer was alerted that the suspect had tried to make a purchase inside the casino with a stolen credit card, according to a KCSD press release.

The officer contacted the suspect outside the casino as the suspect was about to drive away. When the officer checked the license plate of the vehicle, he found that it was reported stolen. The officer asked the driver to shut the car off and step out of the vehicle, at which time the suspect began to drive slowly off with the officer hanging on to the door at the open window.

The driver accelerated, and the officer was dragged a short distance before the officer let go.

KCSD Maj. Ben Wolfinger said the officer suffered a bruised and sprained arm.

The suspect's vehicle, described as a white early '90s Toyota Forerunner, was last seen heading westbound on State Highway 58. The rear license plate is Washington 24KGOLD and the front license plate is Washington B07800L.
