Carol Armitage passed away peacefully on July 15, 2012, at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls. Carol was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Clarkston, Wash., to Albert and Agnes Schroeder from Fraser. She graduated from Weippe High School. She then enrolled in a junior college in Los Angeles, Calif. Upon completion, she worked for the Filipino Chamber of Commerce for a brief time before returning to Fraser.
On Feb. 14, 1942, she married Jay Armitage of Southwick. After Jay’s discharge from the Army during World War II, they farmed in Fraser for 15 years. Carol was a member of the White Pine Rebekah Lodge in Weippe and served as Noble Grand.
In 1960, they moved the family to Coeur d’Alene. Carol worked in retail stores and retired from Rosauers as a Bakery Department Manager.
In 1991, Jay and Carol moved to Lewiston. After 67 years of marriage, Jay passed away on Oct. 21, 2000. Carol is preceeded in death by Jay; her parents and sisters, Gail Taylor and Linda Reynolds.
She is survived by children, Gerry (Marie) Armitage of Fraser, Sherry (Steve) Johnson of Lewiston, Kathleen (Mike) McGuire of Wenatchee, Wash., and Mike (Eva) Armitage of Coeur d’Alene. She also has 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Carol loved antique shopping, cooking and gardening. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date for family and friends. The family would like to thank the Guardian Angel staff for the wonderful care that they provided.
