First Midtown Fair kicks off Aug. 4

COEUR d'ALENE - Midtown is taking it to the streets.

Just in time for the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Street Fair, midtown businesses and residents are aiming to launch their own outdoor event, inviting vendors and entertainers to fill their newly redecorated walkways.

The First Saturday Midtown Fair will kick off Saturday, Aug. 4 - the weekend of the Coeur d'Alene big street fair - and run every first Saturday of the month, weather permitting, through December.

The goal is to boost economic activity in the center section of town, but have some fun too.

"There are new businesses moving into midtown who are excited and want to see events and social community building," said Adam Graves, a midtown resident helping organize the event. "So we're making it happen."

The Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association is helping with the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. and will run until dusk. The plan calls for using sidewalks and the open lot between the old discount food store and the old Paris Market on Fourth Street.

Midtown businesses get first crack at vendor booths, which cost $15, but other businesses and crafters are welcome as well.

Entertainment will play the day away, too.

Graves said the regularity of the event should be easy for locals to remember, so turnout should be good.
