A Frontier Communications official confirmed on Friday that the company will close its Coeur d'Alene call center this summer, putting more than 100 employees out of work.

"There's nothing wrong with the employees or the work they're doing. It's more about efficiencies," said Senior Vice President Steve Crosby.

The Frontier Communications branch on Mineral Way will shutter on Sept. 18, Crosby said.

The employees will receive severance and benefit continuation, he said.

They will not be relocated to other branches, he said, though he encouraged them to apply.

Crosby said the company has been examining its operations after acquiring a number of Verizon Communications properties two years ago, which tripled Frontier Communications' employees.

"What we're trying to do is work through efficiencies, consolidations, really moving people around," he said. "Having work groups working closer together."

Other branches across the country will absorb the Coeur d'Alene call center's responsibilities, he said.

This is the only branch in the country being shut down, he said. He didn't expect any other branch changes in Idaho.

Although Crosby didn't know how many branches Frontier Communications has in Idaho, he said the company had roughly 260 employees in the state as of Friday.

Frontier Communications helped fund the construction of the new KYRO ice arena in Coeur d'Alene.
