Thome passes Sosa on HR list

Jim Thome hit his 610th career homer to move into seventh place on the career list and the visiting Baltimore Orioles pounded out a 10-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.

Thome passed Sammy Sosa on the career list with a towering 418-foot shot off Derek Lowe to open the fourth inning.

"Nothing Jim does surprises me and I just feel pretty lucky to watch and enjoy it," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "I'm glad he's passed our way. He sets a great example for everybody and works incredibly hard. He plays every game like it his first in Little League."

Angels 6, Rangers 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout homered, Jered Weaver pitched seven resilient innings to earn his 12th win, and Los Angeles beat Texas.

Athletics 3, Yankees 2: Brandon Moss hit a game-ending RBI single with one out in the ninth to lift Oakland past visiting New York for its seventh win in eight games.

Twins 2, Royals 1, 11 inn.: Joe Mauer went 3 for 4 and scored the winning run in the 11th to lead Minnesota past Kansas City.

Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 1: Aaron Laffey pitched seven shutout innings and Colby Rasmus drove in two runs, lifting Toronto at Boston.

Tigers 4, White Sox 2: Justin Verlander struck out six and allowed four hits to lead host Detroit past Chicago.

* NATIONAL LEAGUE

Reds 3, Brewers 1: Homer Bailey pitched eight solid innings and Zack Cozart hit the first of Cincinnati's three solo homers for a victory over visiting Milwaukee that kept the Reds in first place in the NL Central.

Giants 7, Phillies 2: Brandon Crawford hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, Tim Lincecum threw seven sharp innings and NL West-leading San Francisco won at Philadelphia.

Pirates 4, Marlins 3: Andrew McCutchen had two hits to boost his batting average to a major-league best .372 and Pittsburgh beat visiting Miami.

Cardinals 4, Cubs 1: Kyle Lohse worked seven strong innings and host St. Louis' slumbering offense ended Ryan Dempster's 33-inning scoreless streak with a three-run first in a victory over Chicago.

Dodgers 7, Mets 6: Matt Kemp homered early and visiting Los Angeles hammered a struggling Johan Santana before holding off New York.

Braves 11, Nationals 10, 11 inn.: Paul Janish hit a run-scoring bloop single in the 11th to complete Atlanta's wild comeback at Washington.

The Nationals led 9-0 after five innings, but Atlanta scored four runs in both the sixth and eighth innings and took a 10-9 lead in the top of the ninth on Michael Bourn's two-run triple.

Diamondbacks 13, Astros 8: At Phoenix, Justin Upton hit his 99th career home run and Arizona beat Houston.

Padres 9, Rockies 5: Carlos Quentin, Yasmani Grandal and Chase Headley all homered as San Diego beat visiting Colorado.
