George Robert Newcomb, 96

George Robert Newcomb, age 96, passed away at Hospice House on July 20, 2012.

George was born in Dalton Gardens on Oct. 28, 1915, to William Edwin and Midora “Ella” Ellen (Sharp) Newcomb.  George served, with humility and honor, in the US Army during World War II in communications under General Patton’s tank regiment. After his discharge he married Marless Beck on May 5, 1946, in Los Angeles, Calif., and acquired daughter Bonnie. The family resided in Alhambra, CA, until April 1976, returning to the Newcomb homestead in Dalton Gardens, where he resided until his passing.?He worked for Western Electric Company, retiring in 1975.?George loved woodworking, gardening, raising Christmas trees, and fishing. George was an example for all in the principal way he lived his life – with great integrity, love, a wonderful sense of humor, and twinkling eyes. He was beloved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Gallaer of Coeur d’Alene; grandchildren Lori and husband Roy Johnson of Novato, Calif., Tami and husband Tim Trakh of Corona, Calif., Tina and husband Mile Silva of Ontario, Calif.; four great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.?George is preceded in death by his parents; wife Marless in 2001; granddaughter Kristi Mercurio, her husband Alan and her children Brandi and Anthony; granddaughter Deborah Drown; Brothers Wayne, Vern, Ward, and Lawrence Newcomb; sisters Flo Hutsell and June Maryott.

George’s family want to express their gratitude to his wonderful and devoted caregivers from Comfort Keepers of Coeur d’Alene, especially Judy, Barbara, and Kat; from Hospice House, especially Marta, Shannon, and Cindy, and from Hospice of North Idaho.

Memorials may be made to Hospice House, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 North Fourth Street, Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow.
