MOSES LAKE- The Manta Rays swim team held their annual Sizzling Summer swim meet July 13-15 at the Surf 'n' Slide Water Park at McCosh Park, and placed third overall. More than 400 swimmers from Oregon, Montana, Washington and Canada attended the meet.
Zachary Washburn set Inland Empire records and won all of the 8 and under boys events. Other top Manta Ray swimmers were Brenden Eslick with a first, five second and a third place finish.
Anna Fair had a first and two third place finishes, Courtney Schwiesow had a first and second place finish, Zack Johnston placed second in two events, and Eric Kemper had a third place finish.
Many other Manta Rays placed in the top 10 in several events to help with the team placing as high as it did. Amber and Joelle Garrett each had third place finishes in their last meet as Manta Rays as they have moved to Texas.
The Manta Rays will miss them and their sister Kelly. The team wishes them good luck. Lauren Lupo also swam her last meet for the team as she is also moving out of state.
The Manta Rays will be finishing up their summer season with the Inland Empire Championships in Spokane July 27-29. After that, Courtney Schwiesow, Brenden Eslick, Kaelan Connacher and Zack Johnston will be representing the Manta Rays in the Western Zone Championships.
There may be others depending on how they do at IE champs next weekend.
