LEGION BASEBALL: Prairie sweeps Trail, District seeds set

POST FALLS - Tyler Shaffer struck out seven and had the game-winning hit in the nightcap and Prairie beat Trail 9-1 and 3-2 in North Idaho League play on Monday at Post Falls High School.

With the sweep, the seedings for the Area A District tournament were set. No. 2 seed Post Falls will play Lewiston (No. 3) on Friday at McEuen Field at 4 p.m., prior to No. 1 seed Coeur d'Alene facing No. 4 seeded Trail at 7:30.

Shaffer finished the day with 12 strikeouts and Zack Reeder, Taylor Valente, Derek Bumgarner and Tyler Burnett each had two hits on the day for Prairie (23-18).

"Tyler's hit down the left-field line was a cool way to end the game and the regular season," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said.

COEUR d'ALENE - Colin Comack had an RBI double in the third inning in the Coeur d'Alene Lumberman's loss to Missoula in American Legion play at McEuen Field.

Colby DeHaas had the other RBI, and went 2 for 4 at the plate for the Lums.

"Colby has been hitting well the last few games," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "It's nice to see he has worked so hard on his hitting and it is now coming around."

The Lums will host the Area A District tournament, beginning Friday at McEuen Field. Coeur d'Alene (39-9) is the first seed, and will face the Trail at 7:30 on Friday.
