COEUR d’ALENE — Council members Steve Adams and Ron Edinger approved the proposed Memorandum of Understanding between the city and American Legion Baseball on Monday.

The General Services Committee, an advisory panel of the Coeur d’Alene City Council, recommended the city adopt the MOU 3 votes to 0.

For Adams and Edinger, two council members who have opposed the McEuen Field project from the get-go, these are their first votes that support the McEuen Field project — or at least line up with the votes of council members who support the park reconstruction plan.

The MOU outlines details for moving the baseball field from McEuen Field to Ramsey Park.

In general, Adams and Edinger opposed moving the ball field from McEuen Field, but it was bound to go forward so long as the council moved forward with the downtown park’s redevelopment plan.

Both Adams and Edinger said if the McEuen Field plan was going forward anyway, they wanted to make sure the city had a replacement ball park in place by first pitch, 2013.

“The way I looked at it, the American Legion, their board was in favor of doing that,” Edinger said of his vote, which he said he made “begrudging,” in support of the Ramsey Park facility. “I’ve always supported the Legion program, although I don’t believe (the proposed ballpark is) equal or better.”
