The beat goes on for the 3Cs.

The Cancer and Community Charities nonprofit, which is celebrating its 50th year of giving in Kootenai County, will distribute $75,000 to 24 local charities to be announced on Aug. 8.

With this year's distribution, the all-volunteer group will have distributed $1.519 million to charities since it started.

Tickets remain on sale for the nonprofit's Aug. 7 garden party and brunch presented by Duane B. Hagadone, chairman of The Hagadone Corp., and his wife, Lola, at their estate on Lake Coeur d'Alene.

The Hagadones are sponsoring the brunch, so the tickets for the fundraiser will be tax-deductible.

"The Hagadones have been very generous to the 3Cs, and we can't thank them enough," said Marcia Saunders, publicity chairwoman for the group, adding that the gardens are among the most spectacular in the Northwest.

The garden party and brunch will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $50 per person and reservations can be made by calling Judy Gardner at 664-4604. Attendees will check in at 9:30 a.m. at The Boardwalk Marina adjacent to The Coeur d'Alene Resort for a cruise to the estate.

Attire is resort casual. Flat shoes are recommended due to the walk through the gardens.

To obtain funding from the 3Cs, charities write grant proposals on how they would use the money.

The grants will be awarded during the group's coffee reception at the Elks Lodge, 1170 W. Prairie Ave., on Aug. 8. Cost is $8 and reservations can be made by calling Arlene Wendell at 777-3049.

The 3Cs, which started out as a bowling league, consists includes 11 activity groups ranging from bowling and book clubs to a musical group. The nonprofit raises funds through two main annual fundraisers and the activity groups.

"It's amazing when everybody comes together and gives some," Saunders said.

It costs $15 to join the 3Cs and the group meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Elks Lodge.
