A new movie that is critical of President Barack Obama and was produced by Bigfork resident and Oscar-winning filmmaker Gerald “Jerry” Molen opens this Friday at Signature Theaters in Kalispell.

The movie “2016: Obama’s America” is based on a best-selling book called “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” written by Dinesh D’Souza. The film first screened in Houston and Los Angeles with a wider opening this Friday.

Signature Theatre manager Wes Foster said it will show in Kalispell at least through Aug. 2, but movies usually stay at Signature for about two weeks.

This Friday, it shows at 2:10 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 7:10 p.m., 9:20 p.m. and midnight.

Molen told the Pachyderm Club in Kalispell last month that he expected “2016” to be available in at least 400 theaters nationwide. At that meeting, he said the film largely relies on Obama’s own words to reveal his world view and how the U.S. could look if Obama is elected to a second term.

Molen, an outspoken conservative, bluntly stated that the purpose of the film is to help defeat Obama in his re-election bid.

Molen is the producer of the Academy Award-winning “Schindler’s List” and other movies including “Jurassic Park” and “Rain Man.”

In recent e-mail correspondence with the Inter Lake, he said the film had strong and enthusiastic turnouts in Houston and Los Angeles. He said he planned to attend several of the Friday screenings in Kalispell, and he intended to be available to answer questions from the audience after the 7:10 p.m. showing.
