POST FALLS - Eric Keck, who has been Post Falls' city administrator since 2006, resigned on Monday, citing choosing a new career path.

In his resignation letter, Keck said he'll remain with the city through the end of August.

Mayor Clay Larkin confirmed reports that Keck submitted his resignation.

Larkin declined to comment on what Keck's next job will be, referring the question to Keck. Keck could not be reached for comment on Monday night.

Larkin said the city is "saddened to lose a true professional city manager."

"He did a lot of work that some people didn't know he did on behalf of the city," Larkin said. "He's gone above and beyond. He's been called the Energizer Bunny."

Larkin said the search for a new city administrator will begin as soon as possible.

"I won't say that I saw (the resignation) coming, but I know he's been frustrated with some things lately," said Larkin, declining to cite the frustrations.

Keck will remain with the city until after the budget is approved in August.

"He'll clean up some projects he's been working on," Larkin said.

Among Keck's first focuses was seeing construction of the new City Hall through.

"He came at a time when we really needed his expertise," Larkin said. "He will be sorely missed by a lot of people."

Larkin said Keck has taken on a myriad of tasks, including gaining citizen input on how city funds should be spent, changing the budget process to a priority-based system rather than a typical line-item format and working with developers to spark Post Falls' economy during tough times.

"We couldn't ask for anything better," Larkin said. "We've gotten along great."

Keck makes about $120,000 per year at the city.

He is involved in multiple community organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County and Real Life Ministries.
