Asleep at the wheel

POST FALLS - Even criminals need their sleep.
But choosing their spot does matter.
Jason D. Hill, a wanted 33-year-old Post Falls man, was caught sleeping in the act while allegedly burglarizing vehicles in the parking lot of an apartment complex early Thursday.
Police said it appears Hill had been trying to hotwire the 1991 Honda Accord he was caught in. A stolen vehicle out of Spokane was recovered nearby.
"Obviously, he was lacking sleep," Post Falls Police Capt. Pat Knight said.
Hill was arrested on multiple charges, including auto burglary and possession of stolen property and drugs.
The vehicle's owner found Hill sleeping in the driver's seat of the car in the 3800 block of East Second Avenue at 4:25 a.m. and called police, Knight said.
"Hill was wearing gloves and appeared to have been removing the stereo from the vehicle he fell asleep in," a Post Falls Police press release states.
Another stolen stereo, burglary tools, wallets and a cell phone belonging to multiple victims were recovered from inside the vehicle. Police believe Hill broke into four vehicles at the complex, in addition to driving the stolen Spokane vehicle, a 1991 Subaru Legacy station wagon, to Post Falls.
"He probably drove the stolen vehicle from Spokane over and was trying to steal this one (Honda) to go back," Knight said.
Hill, who has a criminal history dating back to when he was 12, had a felony warrant out of Washington for attempting to elude police.
Hill was also booked in the Kootenai County jail last October as a fugitive from justice, for battery in 2003 and grand theft and obstructing in 2001.
Police found what they believe is meth in his gloves.
