George William Lloyd Bomar, 77, of Athol, passed away May 30, 2012. George was born May 8, 1935, the eldest son of Lloyd Scottie Bomar and Minnie Bomar (Janssen). He grew up on a working ranch in the Athol area. He married V. Elaine Grunert in Spirit Lake on July 8, 1956. They were happily married for 55 years.
George had a long prosperous career as a mechanic at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood, retiring in 1997 after 42-plus years. One of George’s passions in life was his ranch and you could routinely find him at the local auction buying and/or selling livestock. He was also an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. George was a true workaholic who took pride in everything he did. He was very dedicated to his family and friends. He never knew a stranger and he always extended a helping hand to those in need.
George is preceded in death by his parents, L. Scottie Bomar and Minnie Bomar; and his brother-in-law, Marvin Waddell.
George is survived by his wife, V. Elaine Bomar; his four sons, Kenneth Bomar, Rick Bomar, Raymond Bomar and Georgie Bomar; his daughter, Lynnette Johnston; and son-in-law Gary Johnston, all of Athol; his two granddaughters, Michelle Johnston of Athol and Sarah Anderson of Diamond Lake; and two grandsons, Steven Bomar of Athol and Tony of Oregon. George leaves behind four siblings, Irene Waddell of Coeur d’Alene, Ben Bomar and wife Linda of Athol, Jerry Bomar of Coeur d’Alene, and Janice Hess and husband Mic of Moscow; along with extended family in Idaho, Montana and Nebraska.
George was a family man who always placed the needs of his children first. All of us who knew him will greatly miss his kind soul, unique personality, quick wit and spirited laugh. George’s passing marks the end of an era.
As per his request, there will be no services. He will be laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery in Athol. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
