Yankees rough up Santana

Robinson Cano homered twice and hit one of three straight long balls off an ineffective Johan Santana to lead the New York Yankees to a 9-1 rout of the visiting New York Mets on Friday night.
Hiroki Kuroda allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings before leaving with a bruised left foot. Cano ended Santana's bid for a second straight no-hitter with a two-run shot in the second, then connected again in the third to begin a string of three consecutive home runs by the Yankees.
Santana was given two extra days of rest after throwing a career-high 134 pitches last Friday against St. Louis in the first no-hitter in Mets history. But he didn't have it this time, serving up a career-high four homers during New York's fourth loss in five games

Nationals 7, Red Sox 4: Stephen Strasburg struck out 13 in six innings, Bryce Harper homered and Washington won at Boston.

Pirates 4, Royals 2: Erik Bedard pitched seven solid innings and host Pittsburgh beat Kansas City for its 10th victory in the last 13 games.
Phillies 9, Orioles 6: Jim Thome broke loose in a big way and visiting Philadelphia ended a six-game losing streak by beating Baltimore.
Thome doubled twice, legged out an infield hit and got his first RBI of the season.
Rangers 5, Giants 0: Matt Harrison pitched his third career shutout and Texas won at San Francisco.
Diamondbacks 9, Athletics 8: At Phoenix, Ryan Roberts hit a three-run homer in the ninth and Arizona beat Oakland.
Rays 5, Marlins 1: Matt Joyce homered, doubled and scored three times, leading Tampa Bay at Miami.
Twins 8, Cubs 7, 10 inn.: At Minneapolis, Josh Willingham's RBI single in the 10th lifted Minnesota past Chicago.
Astros 8, White Sox 3: Jed Lowrie, Brett Wallace and Brian Bogusevic each homered to lift Houston at Chicago.
Angels 7, Rockies 2: At Denver, Torii Hunter homered twice and drove in six runs, leading Los Angeles past Colorado.
Braves 4, Blue Jays 3, 10 inn.: Jason Heyward stole third base and scored on catcher J.P. Arencibia's throwing error in the 10th as Atlanta beat visiting Toronto for its fifth straight win.

Brewers 9, Padres 5: Corey Hart hit two homers, rookie Martin Maldonado connected for a three-run shot and host Milwaukee beat San Diego.
