Now the wait is on to see how many of them are valid.
This morning, Recall CdA organizers turned in roughly 21,292 signatures distributed across four separate petitions that seek to recall Coeur d'Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem and City Council members Deanna Goodlander, Mike Kennedy and Woody McEvers.
The recall initiative needs 4,311 valid signatures per petition to get a recall election on a ballot.
Here's the breakdown of signatures per incumbent.
Bloem - 5,384
Kennedy - 5,327
Goodlander - 5,314
McEvers - 5,267
The petitions are now in the hands of the Kootenai County Clerk's office. Workers will spend the next week validating the signatures, checking for voter registration records and confirming residency in the city.
The validated signatures will be returned to Coeur d'Alene City Clerk Susan Weathers by 1 p.m. June 19, although county representatives say they will turn them in earlier if the process is completed.
According to the Idaho Secretary of State’s office, Weathers has four dates from which she can choose to have the election: The last Tuesday in August, the Tuesday following the first Monday in November, the second Tuesday in March 2013, or the third Tuesday in May 2013.
If the matter goes before voters, in order for the recall effort to be successful, there are two thresholds that must be met. First, votes seeking to oust each incumbent will have to exceed the number of votes he or she garnered in the last election. Votes seeking to remove each official from office must also exceed 50 percent of the turnout.
In 2009, Mike Kennedy earned 3,162 votes, Woody McEvers 3,280, Deanna Goodlander 3,146, and Mayor Sandi Bloem earned 3,955.
