Maria graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1971, where she participated in many activities, including the Vikette Drill Team; and also attended North Idaho College where she participated in choir and several dance projects.

She married Ronald Reed in 1973, and soon after moved to southwestern Wyoming, settling in Bridger Valley, Uinta County. Maria was never one for idleness and enjoyed the many roles she held at St. Helen’s parish; also assisting with local theater and the chamber of commerce.

Maria had a zest for life and a passion for discovery. She loved to travel, having visited Canada, Mexico, Europe and Israel. In the last few years of her life, Maria cherished exploring the lower 48 states and Hawaii with her husband of 38 years.

After one year of fighting against the odds of ovarian and primary peritoneal cancers with a beautiful smile and positive spirit, Maria decided to live the rest of her days under the comfortable care of Circle of Life Hospice. Maria passed peacefully in her sleep in the arms of her loving husband, Ronald Reed, whom she is survived by.

Also surviving — three children: Roch of Durham, N.C., Casey of Coeur d’Alene, Monica of Reno, Nev.; one grandson, Jacob of Coeur d’Alene; one brother, Terry Semanko of Coeur d’Alene; and four sisters, Karilyn Nice of Twin Falls, Claudia Normand of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Marlene Knizley of Grand Junction, Colo., and Rosalia Peak of Coeur d’Alene.
