A little girl passed away from cancer eight years ago. Her legacy remains and has moved from her hometown of Hartford, Conn., to the mountains of Lincoln County.

Residents of Libby Care Center will host an Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 308 E. Third St. to raise money for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), named after the brave little girl who battled with cancer until her untimely death in 2004. 

Alexandra “Alex” Scott was only 4-years-old in 2000 when she told her parents that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. 

The ALSF is now a national organization that has raised more than $50 million to help find a cure, $2,000 of which was raised by Alex that June weekend in 2000. It now funds more than 200 projects and is a registered 501(c)3 charity.

Event organizer Kandis Peterson wrote in a press release why some residents of the Care Center wanted to hold this event.

“The folks at our facility remember lemonade stands of their youth, and now they have an opportunity to remember the good ol’ days while doing something great,” the release states. “This generation has seen a great deal of things in their lifetimes, but childhood cancer is one that really wrinkles their hides.”

The residents will be selling lemonade and lemon cookies and providing some live entertainment in an effort to bring several generations together to raise money.

With a successful day, the residents hope “to send a great big glass of love from Libby.”
