Wildkat softball players recognized

The Columbia Falls High School girls softball team had a host of all-state and all-conference selections this year.

Shortstop Shaun Rowe was named all state and first-team all conference. Madison Sandefer was named first-team all conference outfielder. Third baseman Kathrin Jetty was named first-team infielder. Second baseman Niki Birky was named second-team infielder.

Tiffany Hummer was named second-team utility player and Erika Nelson was named honorable mention catcher.

Rounding out the honors was Ashley Trueblood, who was named a second-team pitcher.

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
