A man arrested Tuesday in Spokane Valley could be one of the suspects in a series of fitness center thefts that occurred in Coeur d'Alene in March.

James Tilley, 28, was arrested by Spokane Valley Property Crimes Detective Mark Stewart on 16 felony charges, reports the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

Tilley was arrested in that jurisdiction on seven counts of second degree burglary, six counts of second degree theft, three counts of identity theft and several other misdemeanor charges.

Tilley's operation, similar to the Coeur d'Alene crimes, involved breaking into lockers at health clubs to steal items from inside the lockers, including car keys that were then used to get inside victims' vehicles to remove personal items. Spokane police have recovered a gun taken from a vehicle, jewelry and other items of value.

Several other agencies are investigating similar incidents in their respective jurisdictions. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Peak Fitness on Ironwood Drive and 360 Fitness on Neider Avenue were among the health clubs targeted in Coeur d'Alene.
