June sets wet weather records

Damn right it's wet.

Soak in these record-breaking rainfall figures provided by climatologist Cliff Harris following Tuesday night's torrential downpour that swamped Kootenai County:

• For the first 13 days of June in Coeur d'Alene, it has rained 11 of them, breaking the old mark of 10 set in 1964.

• It has rained 3.5 inches in the Lake City through June 13, breaking the mark of 2.94 inches for the first 13 days of June set in 1974.

• More than 2 feet of rain has fallen on Coeur d'Alene since Jan. 1, also a new record. Normal precipitation since 1895 for the entire year is 26.77 inches.

• Hayden was on the receiving end of more than 4 inches of rain through June 13, also a new record.

The wettest, we hope, may be behind us.

Harris said he expects less rain and more sunshine during the second half of June.

The forecast for Friday calls for, naturally, thunderstorms. And of course, there's a chance of showers Saturday and Sunday.
