Lorraine Edythe Steiner passed away at the age of 89 after many years of illness including several bouts with cancer, strokes and fractured hip and pelvis. She resided at 735 West Orchard until very shortly before her death. She died at the Bridge at Garden Plaza in Post Falls after stays at Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls.

Lorraine was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Lewiston to Randal Carl Crisp and Hattie Ann Evans. She grew up in Spokane and attended North Central High School. She joined the Marine Corps during World War II and was discharged in 1945. That same year she married the love of her life, Arthur Elder Steiner, when he returned wounded from his service in France during the D-Day invasion. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary March 20 of this year. They made their first home in Orofino, then moved to Moscow, Coeur d’Alene, Avondale and finally to the home on Orchard in Hayden.

Lorraine worked in nursing homes, Buttrey’s food stores and sold clothing lines, but her greatest love was her home and being a good homemaker and hostess. She cleaned and decorated with a passion. She canned and cooked everything her hunting and fishing husband and sons brought home. Anyone who came to her home was a welcome guest and would be pressed to stay for a meal. She became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved to share the Bible promises with anyone who would listen. She attended the Kingdom hall in Rathdrum and later in Hayden.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Arthur Steiner; sisters, Joan (spouse Harlan) Gewecke of Coeur d’Alene, Virginia and (spouse Candy) Martin of Olive Branch, Miss.; and one brother, Eugene (spouse Patti) Crisp of Surprise, Ariz. Her sons, Douglas (Donna) Steiner of Boise, Robert (Tina) Steiner of Coeur d’Alene and Stan (Betty) Steiner of Rathdrum. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was deeply grateful to her caregivers who made it possible for her to remain at home long after her illness had weakened her and later for the wonderful people at Life Care Center and the Bridge who made her last days comfortable as well as Hospice of North Idaho.

Her memorial service is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Rathdrum.
