Lums to play for Wild Wings title

CALDWELL - Nick Nyquist singled and drove in two runs as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen defeated the Meridian Rangers 6-1 on Saturday to advance to the championship game of the Buffalo Wild Wings Classic at Vallivue High.
Chad Nyquist tripled in the second inning and scored on a sacrifice by Nyquist. Colin Comack and Kolby DeHaas also had RBIs for Coeur d'Alene (12-1), which faces the Boise Barons tonight at 6 PDT at Vallivue.
Sean Sutton and Jake Gonzalas teamed to allow five hits on the mound for Coeur d'Alene.
"Sean pitched very well and effectively for six innings," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "Jake came in and did a nice job of finishing the game. The nice thing today is we hit with runners in scoring position and manufactured some runs."

Darnell Metcalf hit a two-run single to right field to score Zack Reeder and Gil Givens as the Prairie Cardinals bounced back from an earlier 8-4 loss to Pullman at Lewis-Clark State to defeat the Spokane Crew 2-1 at Colfax to conclude pool and tourney play in the Palouse Summer Series with a 2-3 record.
Prairie (7-6) failed to advance into today's semifinals.
Jeremy McKinney hit a two-run double in the fourth inning against Pullman and scored on an RBI single by Joe Schwalbach. Pullman's Jackson Webb hit a two-run single to break a 4-all tie in the sixth.
Tony Davidson struck out the side in the seventh inning against Spokane for Prairie, which travels to Moscow for a nonleague game at 5:30 on Monday.
"We definitely didn't play to our potential this weekend," Prairie coach Dustin Frank said. "We should have won a few more games, but it was nice to end the weekend with a win. We just had a letdown defensively."

COEUR d'ALENE - Connor Cardinel struck out seven in the first game and Nathaniel English had five strikeouts in second game as the Lumberjacks swept Riverside in a Spokane American Legion under-16 "A" Northern League doubleheader at McEuen Field.
English, Jordan Ross and Elliot Sparks all had four hits on the day for Coeur d'Alene (8-3, 5-0 NL), which hosts Mead today in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at McEuen Field.
