We love sweets... and bargains

Sweet things to eat and interesting things to buy comprise the theme for this week.

The name of this place, Faithful Chocolates, tells a lot of the story. With a Christian religious-based theme, Nadine Sharpe offers a wide variety of sweets, clothing and paper products in the 1,900-square-foot space formerly occupied by Spokandy next to Starbucks in (Albertson's) Ironwood Square.

The particular sweet products include candies from Spokandy as well as Jelly Belly and Huckleberry specialties. A variety of T-shirts, ties and children's clothing, cards, posters, tote bags, books and calendars have religious and inspirational themes. Nadine also has jewelry and catalogs for additional products.

Religiously based herself, she said she changed her priorities to the order of God, family and work in 2008. Originally from Spokane, she returned to the Inland Northwest in 1991 after living in other Northwest states and California.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Stacie's Cakes offers variety

Everyday gourmet cupcakes, special-occasion cakes, cheesecakes and cobblers are offered at Stacie's Cakes across from the Post Falls Library on North Spokane Street. The shop is in the same L-shaped building as Pit Stop Tavern and Dog House Grooming.

Owners Stacie and Kevin Ward bake all their products in the store and often make multiple items - as many as 3,000 cupcakes for one occasion. They also use their store for parties and kids' decorating classes.

Originally from the Yakima Valley, they came to Post Falls in 2006 from Las Vegas. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Phone 777-CAKE (2253). Check www.staciescakes.com.

New thrift stores in Post Falls: Two new thrift stores in Post Falls are Lil' Bee's Thrift Store & More and Down From the Attic Thrift Store.

Owner Rebecca Johnson and manager Jennifer Gordon call Lil' Bee's in Seltice Center at 205 E. Seltice "an antique and thrift boutique." Also containing a variety of collectibles and toys, hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 457-2704.

New-to-used items, clothing, toys, antique tools and free coffee are at Down From the Attic in Whistlestop Plaza at 2700 E. Seltice. With hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, owner Karla Holbert can be reached at 512-7882. Email at [email protected].

This week's Tidbits:

* Watch for a new clothing store in the Sunset Avenue shops.

* Last week's item had Tiki Hut as being what is now the Corner Grill as part of the Corner Bar at Fourth & Spruce. That actually was Teriyaki Tiki. Randy Folk's seasonal Tiki Hut open this week at Coeur d'Alene City Beach.

* The Beachhouse Bar & Grill on Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive plans to reopen at the end of the month.

* The closing date for Mountain Comfort Furnishings & Design probably will be in late summer. The 13,000-square-foot store is at 310 H. Haycraft (and Highway 95). Check www.mountaincomfortcda.com.

* Hinted at last week, paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected, usually humorous such as "I didn't say it was your fault; I said I was blaming you."

* Style note: Titles are capitalized and job descriptions are lower case before a name such as Managing Editor Michael Patrick and columnist Joe Schmoe. If you're not sure, put it in commas and lower case after the name.
