Players from Columbia Falls, Flathead, Glacier and Polson will be on East and West rosters for the 13th annual Shodair Soccer Classic in Helena on July 28 at Nelson Stadium on the campus of Carroll College.

The girls and boys matches are scheduled for 5 and 7 p.m.

Of the four local schools, Polson has the most selections with four — Peregrine Frissell, Nicholas Howell and Riley Lemm are on the West roster, while Madeline Hewston is on the East roster.

Glacier’s two selections are Josiah Bumgarner and Chantal Gustine. Representing Flathead is Tess Brenneman. All three are on the West roster.

Cedar Jordt of Columbia Falls will play for the East team.

The Classic features top student athletes from high schools all across the state. Through a rigorous screening process, more than 70 girls and boys are selected to play in the annual event.

In addition to having been selected as All-State and All-Conference in Class AA or A, participants must have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, and citizenship.

The Classic also brings together a talented coaching staff to guide the teams and assure top-level competition.

Players and coaches arrive at Carroll College on July 25. The high school players will also host aspiring young soccer all-stars in a free clinic for children ages 5 to 12 on July 27.

The Soccer Classic is a benefit for Shodair Children’s Hospital and the important work it does for Montana’s youth. Shodair provides psychiatric services for children and adolescents from communities throughout the state, as well as comprehensive genetic services for people of all ages.

According to a press release, the hospital provided more than $3.5 million in uncompensated care for at-risk children and youth from around the state in 2011.

Support generated from events like the Soccer Classic and the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon help assure that these services remain available for Montana families in need of help.
