Recall effort fails

The recall initiative is officially over.

After the city's review of the recall petitions, the final number of valid signatures received to recall each of the targeted city officials is less than the 4,311 needed to trigger an election.

The actual final numbers of valid signatures are:

Deanna Goodlander - 4,073

Mike Kennedy - 4,077

Woody McEvers - 4,060

Mayor Sandi Bloem - 4,126

Kootenai County Clerk Cliff Hayes told The Press that the signatures were certified by checking them against the state's list of registered voters living in the city of Coeur d'Alene. If they weren't on the list, the signature was deemed invalid.
