Signature review final; 23 percent disqualified

Kootenai County Clerk Cliff Hayes just announced the completion of signature verifications for the Coeur d’Alene recall petitions.

“We’ve completed 100 percent of the petition verifications. The final reject rate is approximately 23 percent for all three council members and for the mayor,” Hayes said. “We will deliver the petitions back to the City of Coeur d’Alene this afternoon."

An official announcement will be made by the city at 4:30 p.m., but it appears the recall effort has failed.

To trigger a recall election, 4,311 valid signatures were needed on each of the petitions for the four elected officials targeted — Mayor Sandi Bloem and council members Mike Kennedy, Deanna Goodlander and Woody McEvers.

With a 23 percent rejection rate across the board, here is The Press' estimated breakdown of valid signatures per petition:

Bloem - 5,384 signatures turned in; 4,146 valid; failed by 165

Kennedy - 5,327 signatures turned in; 4,102 valid; failed by 209

Goodlander - 5,314 signatures turned in; 4,092 valid; failed by 219

McEvers - 5,267 signatures turned in; 4,056 valid; failed by 255
