POST FALLS -David King figured his two 1967 Chevy Camaro Rally Sport show cars were history.

The Post Falls man thought they had been parted out. His insurance company was preparing to pay King for the stolen cars as nearly a month had passed since the theft.

Then a car collector in Garden City in the Boise area called King on Friday night to say he had looked at his black Camaro for sale at a storage facility in that town.

"The seller was asking $27,500, but the potential buyer knew something was up because the car is worth at least twice that much," King said.

The potential buyer, Don Copple, said he would think about the purchase and, sure enough, later saw photos on the Internet that the vehicle had been reported as stolen by King.

King said police asked Don to meet the seller, Anthony Bauer, 48, Post Falls, again at the storage facility to discuss the car on Saturday.

That's when Bauer was arrested and booked in the Ada County Jail on four felony charges - two counts of burglary and two counts of grand theft.

Also arrested in the Boise area on Saturday and found in a stolen truck out of Nampa were alleged accomplices Travis L. Quiring, 37, Hayden, and Sarah M. Cornett, 19, Post Falls.

King, who lives in Colorado part of the year and has a condo in Post Falls, said Bauer worked on both of the cars about five years ago. He believes Bauer received a tip that the cars were being stored inside his garage at the quiet Greenview condominiums on the Spokane River in Post Falls.

"I cut ties with him (after the car work) and it never occurred to me that he would've done it," King said. "He had never been to my condo."

Bauer has been booked into the Kootenai County jail 10 times, including for theft and auto title fraud/forgery.

Quiring was booked on five felonies - the same charges as Bauer and drug possession - and three misdemeanors of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving without privileges. He was recently the "Fugitive of the Week" in The Press. He was being sought on a $50,000 warrant for two counts of burglary.

Cornett was booked on two counts of burglary and possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

Police are working on leads to recover King's yellow Camaro that may have been sold to a buyer in Montana. The two cars were stolen at the same time.

Police and King said the suspects were allegedly on drugs and there are conflicting stories as to where the car may be.

King, 50, said his black car has minimal damage. He said if he's only going to recover one of the cars, he said he would rather have the black one back because it was custom built. He estimates the black one is worth $65,000 and the yellow one with black stripes $45,000. He has owned both for about six years.

Copple couldn't be reached for comment.

King said he offered Copple a $2,500 reward for helping recover his black Camaro, but Copple declined.

"He said he just wants a picture with me in my car when I come to get it," King said.
