COEUR d'ALENE - Carter Chaffin struck out nine in four innings for the Coeur d'Alene Loggers in a 10-6 win in the first game and the Missoula Mavericks won the second game 14-3 to split a "A" American Legion baseball doubleheader at McEuen Field on Tuesday.

Chaffin also went 2 for 3 before leaving the game in the fourth inning after breaking his right hand sliding back into first base on a pickoff attempt by Missoula.

J.J. Winger and Ethan Brandt had RBIs in the first game for Coeur d'Alene (6-6), which faces Hamer Electric on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. in the Walla Walla Bruins tournament.

Brent Wingham had an RBI single in the second game for Coeur d'Alene.

"We do really well when our pitching, hitting and defense are in sync," Coeur d'Alene coach Mike Bacon said. "We need to eliminate our errors, but our at-bats are improving each game."
