High bond set for Cd'A shooter
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 12 years, 10 months AGO
A District Court judge set a preliminary bond of $500,000 for Zebulon Batke this afternoon.
The 33-year-old Coeur d'Alene man was arrested on Thursday for two felony counts of shooting into an occupied residence, and one felony count of aggravated assault.
Batke had shot at an ex-girlfriend's duplex early in the morning, then barricaded himself in his apartment for several hours before law enforcement breached the door and found him asleep, with several weapons nearby.
Multiple agencies assisted in the apprehension of Batke at his residence at Park Place Apartments, keeping evacuated residents out of their homes for several hours.
Judge Clark Peterson granted the state's request for the high bond out of concern for public safety.
A state representative also noted that Batke's actions on Thursday violated his $40,000 bond for a pending felony DUI from earlier in the year.
A preliminary hearing for Batke will be set within 14 days.
