COEUR d'ALENE - If freedom isn't free, then the celebratory fake bombs sure aren't either.

So far, the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce is about one third of the way to its $60,000 fundraising goal for the town's Fourth of July celebration that is highlighted by the exploding fireworks show - the biggest of its kind in North Idaho.

Donations come in a variety of ways - from event sponsors to last-minute contributions dropped off during the Bucket Brigade right before the start of the parade - but around 33 percent of the total is in hand, according to Diane Higdem, events coordinator.

Sixty grand is a big goal, but it takes a lot to put on a day-long celebration.

It begins at 11 a.m. with the annual Fourth of July parade, emceed by Press columnist Kerri Thoreson. After the hour-long parade, City Park will be set up with vendors offering anything from elk burgers to karate lessons.

At 2 p.m., music kicks up the fun with the band "Nu Jack City," a local favorite playing the Motown sound.

The 2012 Marina Challenge has also hit the docks.

This year's participating marinas, Blackwell Island, Boardwalk, Silver Beach and Delavan's, all have empty buckets waiting to be filled with contributions.
