COEUR d'ALENE - Pete Hoffman hit a three-run double in the first inning and Colin Comack had a two-run single in the sixth inning as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen beat the Twin City Titans 5-1 on Saturday at McEuen Field to advance to the semifinals of the Best of the Northwest tournament.

Coeur d'Alene (17-2) will face the Spokane Dodgers today at 1 p.m. at Central Valley High. Prairie will face Yard Academy in the other semifinal.

"It basically turned into a pitcher's duel after the fourth inning," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "They brought in their ace and he was popping some good speed. We brought in Colin and there wasn't many baserunners after that. It was an exciting game when it became a pitcher's duel. Both pitchers were throwing really well."

Earlier, Chad Nyquist hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to lead the Lumbermen past the Blaze of Portland 5-1 in a pool play game at McEuen Field.

The game was called on Friday in the bottom of the first inning due to rain and concluded with Lumbermen pitcher Grant Curtis striking out seven in a complete-game win.

"Grant was in command from the get-go," Duman said. "It was nice because we weren't sure how that was going to go. Both pitched just one inning the night before, and you don't know if their arm is going to come back. Grant's did."

On Friday, Coeur d'Alene lost 11-2 to Athletes in Motion. The Lums went 3-1 in pool play and finished second in their pool.
